Cobia fishing season is open year round. One of the more curious and aggressive fish we catch in our area. This is usually an Angler favorite to fish for.
We mainly catch Cobia around the shallow water rigs during the fall months and we start catching them as early as March at the deep water platforms. The warmer months (May-October) are the better times to fish for them, with September and October being the best. They usually school in groups of two to eight, and will range in size from 15lbs. To 60+lbs.
The techniques we use to catch Cobia are jigging, chumming, and weighted lines. The majority are usually caught while fishing for Red Snapper and Mangrove Snapper. However, the more preferred method is jigging them up from the shallow water pipes and rigs or sight casting for them along the rip lines inside of West Delta. They sometimes jump, greyhound, or break the surface while fighting making them one of the most exciting species to fish for.
Fish we also catch while fishing for Cobia are Red Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Amberjack, Grouper, and Jack Crevalle.
