March 2026 Venice, LA Fishing Report & Charter Guide

March in Venice, LA marks the peak of the spring transition. With offshore water temperatures stabilizing, we are seeing a consistent 140lb+ Yellowfin bite at the deep-water rigs. Inshore, Redfish are moving into the warming marsh ponds. Conditions are ideal for combination trips targeting both pelagics and marsh species.

The Spring Transition: What’s Biting in Venice Right Now?

The chill of winter is giving way to the warmth of spring, and the fishing in Venice, Louisiana, is transitioning into one of the most exciting periods of the year. This crossover month offers the best of both worlds: the tail end of our legendary winter trophy season and the beginning of the aggressive spring feeding frenzy. Our captains are targeting a massive variety of species right now, creating non-stop action across both inshore and offshore trips. March fishing in Venice, Louisiana offers some of the most diverse action of the entire year, with anglers targeting everything from giant Yellowfin Tuna offshore to aggressive Redfish in the marsh.

Inshore Species in the Venice Marshes During March

As the shallow marsh waters begin to warm consistently, Redfish remain aggressive. They will continue to stage in the back ponds and dead-end canals, but will start to move more broadly, feeding hard before their spring patterns set in. Anglers can expect continued shallow-water blowups, aggressive strikes, and powerful runs from these marsh favorites.

March is a critical month for Speckled Trout. As temperatures rise, they'll move more actively from their protected deeper holes toward passes and points, staging near passes, current lines, and points as they begin moving toward their spring spawning cycle. This means prime opportunities for anglers targeting these prized fish near current and structure.

These flatfish are becoming more active as water temperatures climb. They'll be found buried in soft mud and sand near structures like oyster beds and bayou mouths. Focus on slow-moving baits right on the bottom.

Sheepshead, or the "convict fish" remains a reliable winter staple, congregating around hard, shallow structures like bridge pilings and jetties, offering great table fare and a challenging fight. Large schools of Black Drum are numerous in the deeper canals and near oyster reefs. They are powerful fighters and are best targeted with fresh, cut bait or cracked crab.

Offshore Species in the Gulf of Mexico During March

March fishing for Yellowfin Tuna in Venice remains exceptional, with giant fish still holding around deepwater rigs and seamounts throughout the Gulf. The big fish from the winter months are still present around the deep-water rigs and seamounts of the Gulf of Mexico, with improving weather windows making runs more consistent. We utilize live bait, chunking, and vertical jigging to tackle these giants.

Known for their speed, the Wahoo bite remains world-class in March. We'll be targeting them with high-speed trolling techniques over offshore structures and temperature breaks.

Daytime Swordfishing in the deep Gulf of Mexico continues to provide a massive big-game challenge. We fish these broadbills around 1,500–2,000 feet deep along the continental shelf using large squid or whole fish baits rigged to sink to the bottom.

An essential bottom-dwelling species, various Grouper (such as Red and Gag) are a consistent year-round target. We focus on offshore wrecks, reefs, and rocky bottom structures with heavy tackle, primarily using live or cut bait to secure these prized reef fish.
