Super Strike Charters Gulf Coast Fishing Report
Louisiana Red Fishing in Venice, LA

The Louisiana Red Fishing so far this year has been excellent.

This time of year we fish for slot reds (16-24 Inches) which are the most abundant size to fish for during the winter months. They are usually found in some of the shallow water ponds and anywhere that is holding a clean, warm, pocket of water.

There is usually a mix of flounder and trout most days, along with a few Bull Reds.

We mix it up with some bottom fishing and top water cork fishing.  Some days either way is very productive.

Capt. Ronald ran the Schroeder crew on 1/26/17 and they easily caught a limit of nice Redfish, then they caught and released a bunch more.  They mainly fished the edges of the grass lines in some of the ponds and canals that were holding clean water. The majority came off of a shrimp under cork.  On 1/30/17 the Datoni crew from Jacksonville, Fl. came down for a day of inshore and offshore fishing.  They also caught a nice limit of redfish using the same techniques in the same areas.

The weather this time of year can be cold, warm, or hot.  On the 26th we had a cold front come thru with winds in the 15-20k range and temps in the low 50’s, and the fish actually bit better than 1/31 which had high temps in the high 60’s and no wind.  So despite any weather conditions down here in Venice, you never know for sure how the day will go unless you get out there and fish.  However, since we are located so far South and we are surrounded by the Gulf, avg. temps are usually in the low 60’s and very comfortable to fish in throughout the Winter.

This is a great time for Louisiana Red Fishing down here in Venice for both inshore and offshore species.
